Here is the old west side of Pottery
Hill curve and grade.

(The top of the hill is at the bend.  It is hard
to make out the 1.25% grade at the top of the hill.
It kept buckling every summer due to heat kinks as shown here.  So I cut the hill top off to lower the grades).

The Pottery Hill cut.

(The roadbed has been
dropped about a 15".

You can compare the
height of the cactus on
the right.  The grade is
near 0% this side of the hill).

The big cut at Pottery Hill.

(Here's the original 1.5%
grade looking straight up the
 hill)

Here's a view of the finished cut
before the roadbed was placed.

(There was quite a bit of dirt left
over.  And more grading was done
 after the track was placed
).

Here's a view of the finished cut
with the main line track placed.

(The new grade is about 0.25 %.
There  is still quite a bit of work left.
Ardel's Causeway roadbed needs
to be realigned to the right.  The
turnout in the foreground goes to
the steaming bay
).

Here's a view from the top
of Pottery Hill all finished.

(The 1st left turnout goes to
 Ardel's
causeway.  The 2nd
turnout goes to the steaming
bay).
